Sanjay Raut warns of rift in MVA over Rahul Gandhi remarks on Savarkar | India News

MUMBAI: Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Friday warned of a rift in the MVA coalition due to Rahul Gandhi’s comments against Vinayak Savarkar.
While Raut complimented Rahul for the “response” his Bharat Jodo Yatra was evoking, he said there was no need for the Congress leader to come to Maharashtra and speak ill of Savarkar. Raut said his comments were not acceptable to Sena and had even embarrassed his own partymen.
“There can be a daraar (rift) in the MVA because of his (Rahul’s) statements …because for us Veer Savarkar is a respected and venerated figure,” Raut said.
Rahul must create, not rake up, history: Raut on Savarkar
Reacting to Rahul Gandhi’s comments on Veer Savarkar, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said on Friday, “The Shiv Sena won’t tolerate such remarks against Savarkar or his defamation. The issue ends there. Rahul Gandhi got the maximum response for his Yatra in Maharashtra and is getting good response all over the country. The Bharat Jodo Yatra is about inflation, unemployment and threat to democracy, crime against women and how the country is heading towards dictatorship. So there was no need to bring up the issue of Savarkar. Not just the Shiv Sena, but Maharashtra Congress leaders are also embarrassed. Rahul Gandhi must look at future and create history and not rake up history.”
Raut added, “Veer Savarkar wasn’t the deity of the RSS and BJP ever. They are taking this up for politics. Veer Savarkar is respected by a large section in Maharashtra and the country. We have been demanding Bharat Ratna for him, but is their love for Savarkar fake? Why is BJP not giving him Bharat Ratna?”
